Flashing LineageOS made me realise how deep the Samsung/Google dependency goes.

My unofficial no-GApps build still included Android’s advertising framework. Hardware support still depends on proprietary vendor components.

We talk about “de-Googling” as if removing Play Services gives us ownership of the device. The dependencies run much deeper.

We need to be precise about what “de-Googled”, “open source” and “owning your phone” actually mean.

Android had 1421 vulnerabilities in year 2023. (and not counting of phone vendor specific vulnerabilities).

iOS had 268 in year 2023. That is roughly 18% of what Android had.
